Valentine Cookie Massacre
I've only made sugar cookies once before today. They're not the easiest things to make. Ya gotta make the dough ahead of time, it requires at least 4-6 hours of chill time in the fridge. I let them chill for over 12 hours, overnight and then some. Then you gotta roll them out to the perfect thickness, cut them out, bake 'em, cool 'em then finally frost them. It's practically a 2 day process and when those happy hearts end up looking like a lopsided liver, it can be really frustrating. This may be the 2nd and last time I'll make sugar cookies. But Jimmy seemed to love them and that's what matters most.
When I rolled the dough out, it was really soft and sticky, so when I tried to cut it with the cookie cutter, everything stuck together. Then when I tried to transfer it onto the cookie sheet, it all just flopped. A great big mess.
I have no idea what happened to this one. But if you slap a bit of frosting on it and close your eyes, you might not notice how unattractive that cookie really was.
I had less than 10 of them turn out ok. I added a lot more flour to them so they wouldn't stick as much.
But I was worried that the added flour would adversely change the taste, so I scrapped the whole cookie cutter notion and just went with round cookies.
After too many hours, my kitchen counter was filled with cookies.
One benefit of working with them for so many hours is that they were the last thing I wanted to eat. Thankfully I have a few people I can give them to and Jimmy is more than willing to eat the ugly ones. Happy Valentines Day honey, you have to eat the ugly cookies because I'm giving away the prettier ones.

Small Box of Sweetness
It's been a long time since I've posted a crafty project. And the truth is, I haven't been doing much crafting this month.
Except for a couple of weeks ago when Kristina showed us how to make these sweet little treat boxes.
Perfect for Valentines. Those are Hershey Hugs wrapped up in scrapbook paper and little stamped messages on each one.
I'm hoping to make 6 or 10 of these for Valentines Day.

Valentine's Heart Wreath
I saw this idea at The Paper Source a couple of weeks ago and knew that I had to make one for myself. Sure I could have bought the kit, but I knew that it was simple enough for me to make it with my own supplies.
The basic ingredients are a wreath base and a bunch of hearts. 12 large hearts form the base of the wreath, 4 of 3 different colors.
I did buy the wreath base from the Paper Source. But I want to make more than 1 of these, so I also bought a package of 12" cake circles from Michaels. I used the wreath base as a template, and penciled in the inner circle so I could cut it out...
like this.
Then all you do is start gluing your big hearts your wreath base. There are 12 hearts, so just think of a clock and glue one heart per "number" so they're spaced equally. Glue all of the same colored hearts opposite each other.
Keep working around the base. You may have to do a little adjusting in your overlapping so your base doesn't show.
Before you glue on your last heart, wrap an 18"-20" (eyeball it) ribbon around the base and center it between 2 hearts. Glue it in place then glue your last heart on top of it to hide the ribbon.
Voila! In less than 10 minutes, you've got your heart wreath!
Gather a bunch of smaller hearts in 3 different sizes. I have 12 hearts per color here, but I didn't use them all. You can either freehand cut them, or use a printed template as a guide that you printed from your computer, or punch them w/ various heart punches.
I used my Cuttlebug and a Tipsy Heart Sizzix die to cut all my hearts. I lurve all my crafting tools.
I used 3D foam tape on all of the hearts. On a few of the hearts, I doubled the foam tape to raise them even higher. That's the bottle of glue I used to glue the hearts and ribbon to the base. My favorite liquid glue.
Then it's just a matter of adhering all the hearts in a random way all around the wreath.
Make your center dangle just by gluing a piece of thin ribbon to the back of a heart. Layer another heart on top of it, just because you can. Then glue it to the back of the wreath, directly on the main ribbon so when it hangs, it's centered below your hanging ribbon.
And your done! A super cute paper wreath finished in 30 minutes or less. And of course, I'm gonna have to make one with lots of glitter too because doesn't Valentine + hearts = sparkle?

Belated Valentine Wishes
I got home very late on February 14th, didn't even have for time for a romantic dinner with my sweety. Then, in typical Madeline style, I caught a cold as soon as I got home. So for the past few days, I've been sleeping, catching up on tv, sniffling, coughing, and very stuffy headed. So I haven't been able to write a coherent post since I've been back. But here are a few pics I took in NYC that I had hoped to share on Valentine's Day.

So I give you permission to celebrate again with your beloved, another Valentine's celebration on President's Day.

Hearts abound
Valentine's day is approaching and I thought it'd be fun to share some of the little lovely hearts that fill my house.
Thomas Mann techno-romantic silver hearts in a Provence bowl Phin gave me 2 1/2 years ago.
Polymer clay hearts I made using scraps left over from a caning class and a mokume gane class.
Just a few of my heart related rubber stamps.
Aluminium heart on my mailbox.
