Hill Training
Thursdays have unofficially become my "hill training' day.
Since February 28th, I've been doing weekly 'hikes' up some of our famous San Francisco hills.
Why am I hill training? Because in May, I'm taking a trip with 3 of my sister-in-laws on a hiking road trip from Colorado, through Utah and into Nevada. And all 3 of them are in better shape than I am. But to my advantage, I have some serious hills in my front yard that I can use to prepare my lungs and legs.
Today I tackled Telegraph Hill. For the 3rd time.
I walked through North Beach on the way up.
I needed to take a breather walking up the Peter Macchiarini Steps. While I'm catching my breath, I might as well take a snapshot of Fresno Street.
Made it to the top of the Peter Macchiarini Steps!
Before heading up to Coit Tower, I catch my breath at the corner of Kearny and Filbert looking towards Russian Hill.
I didn't snap a photo when I got to the top of Telegraph Hill because my round trip will take me back to it. I immediately started down the other side of the hill.
Descending the Filbert Steps to Montgomery Street.
The view of the Bay Bridge from The Filbert Steps and Montgomery Street.
Now it was time to go back up.
Interesting brick and stonework at the base of the Greenwich Street Steps at Montgomery Street.
Time to climb up some beautiful brick steps.
Lots of them.
The stairway gardens on Telegraph Hill are so incredibly beautiful.
Each stairway takes my breath away.
Have I already mentioned the stairs?
And the gardens?
That was just part of the Greenwich Street Steps. I did the longer part last week, which I hope to write about later.
Made it back up to the top of Telegraph Hill and Coit Tower!
No time to stop though, so I headed down the west side.
This beautiful house is on Child Street.
I love how they've strung colored lights to the rooftops. Maybe one day we'll make it back at night.
A few stairs down from Child Street to Lombard Street.
I've been loosely following routes from a book called "Stairway Walks in San Francisco". This park was mentioned on this hike. I doubt I ever would have explored this area if it weren't for this book.
But to get up there, you have to climb a bunch more steps.
Half way up!
A beautiful multimillion dollar villa at the top.
With views of Alcatraz...
The Golden Gate Bridge...
The Richmond-San Rafael Bridge...
And even a glimpse of the Bay Bridge through the trees.
The last "major" steps of the day are the Francisco Steps.
At the bottom of Francisco Steps.
Treelined walk along Bay Street.
Finally FLAT GROUND!

Wait, What???
Ok, this is my 1st 'real' blog post in probably 5 years. I have my instagram photos automatically upload, but now and then I have more to say or share. And my Instagram auto-uploads don't allow multiple photos. But for 5+ years, I haven't done a 'real' post. I don't even know if I remember how. I used to compose my posts externally, outside of blogger, then it imported somehow magically, thanks to the wizardry of my husband. So I'm gonna try to create posts directly in blogger. Cuz for the life of me, I can't remember how to do it the external way.
So, really, this is just a test to see if...
1. I remember how to do this
2. If I'll actually get back to blogging
3. there is no 3, but I like to round things up to odd numbers.
