I wandered upon this amazingly beautiful video from one of the local blogs I read. It's what is happening now. It's spectacular. People complain about San Francisco's cold summers and the incessant fog. I love it. Especially since I live on the side of the city that usually gets the least of it, but it still shows up at the exact right time.
We've had a hot spell for several days, but today it cooled off significantly in the city and by 4pm, the fog rolled in. Right now at 10:30p, it's 60º and breezy. Our windows are open, taking advantage of our free air conditioner. Several of my desert friends on Facebook are commenting on how their electricity bill has been between $200-$500 because of AC. My jaw dropped on the floor. We had it on for a few hours yesterday when it was still hot during the day. Most apartments and homes in The City don't have air conditioning. Since our building is a high rise and modern, it does. But we very rarely need it. I had forgotten how expensive running the AC is. We used it daily in the summer when we lived in Mountain View 10 years ago, but even when we lived in San Jose, we didn't have ac. Though I admit, we needed it there.
Tomorrow I'll be in San Jose and it's suppose to be in the low to mid 90s. It's still going to be over 100º where my in-laws live. But in The City, the high will be 77º. Believe it or not, that feels hot to us! I hope I don't melt when I'm in San Jose tomorrow.
