12.23: A Christmas Ballet

It was a rainy, windy, cold day in San Francisco today. One of those days you really wanted to just hunker down at home, listen to Christmas music and watch Christmas shows. But my sister-in-law an I had tickets to see The Nutcracker at the San Francisco Opera House.
It was worth going out in the storm. Did you know that the San Francisco Ballet was the first ballet company in the United States to perform Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker? It opened in December 1944 and 10 years later in 1954 it opened in New York City. It wasn't till the early 60's that The Nutcracker's popularity spread through the rest of the country and became a Christmas Tradition.

Lucky you. Kinda like our going to the Köln Christmas markets this year...the very city where they first started in Germany eons ago. As we say, the rest is history!
