it's the day after Thanksgiving so that means the Christmas season has officially started. On Tuesday I gave a little sneak peek of the tree at Union Square. But tonight was the official tree lighting ceremony. My sister-in-law came to watch it with us.
Note to self: when they say that the tree lighting ceremony is going to start at 6, that means over 40 minutes of entertainment beforehand. And you can't hear or see the entertainment from the sidewalk in front of Macy's.Since we thought they would light the tree at 6, we got there at 5:30 along with thousands of other people. So we had quite a wait before the tree was actually lit, so we enjoyed some people watching to help pass the time.
The tree is an 80' white fir from a tree farm in Mt. Shasta.
Afterwards, we returned to our hotel and relaxed for a bit then headed to Ghirardelli Square for peppermint ice cream with dark chocolate hot fudge. My SIL loves the combination of peppermint and chocolate as much as I do!
Ghirardelli Square also had their tree lighting ceremony tonight, but it conflicted with the one at Union Square. Their tree is 50' with over 2500 lights.
