1991-2009

Billy, our beautiful kitty and friend. February 1991 to January 2009.

We had to say goodbye to our beloved Billy kitty yesterday afternoon. While we are completely devastated and the duplex does not feel the same, we're at peace that she is not in pain and that it was the right time to say goodbye. Up to the very end, she was the bravest and most loving kitty. She had a very bad morning yesterday and hadn't slept very well or eat much in the past 24 hours. We decided to make the painful call to the vet. And as we teary eyed got ready to put her in the pet carrier, expecting to have to struggle to put her in, because as any pet owner knows, they do not like to go into those things. But all we had to do was open the door and all on her own she stood up and walked right in and laid down. It was like she knew that it was her time and she was ready to go. And when we were at the vet in the little examination room, saying our final goodbyes, petting her, and her still rubbing her cheek against our hands, when the vet came back into the room, Billy 'told' us that she was ready to go, simply by turning around in the carrier and facing away from us. To us, it was her way of telling us, "yes, now is the right time to let me go. I'm ready, and you are making the right decision." Our brave little kitty, still showing us how much she loves us to the very end. She was just such a good kitty. We were lucky to have her in our lives.

Oh, Mad. I'm so, so sorry. Billy was lucky to have you two to give her so much love and humane care. I didn't know Billy, but my heart is broken for you. You've said goodbye to a family member and that is never easy. Sending hugs and a shoulder to cry on up north for you.

*sniff* I had to hold off for a while before coming here because I knew from your post on facebook that as soon as I came here I'd cry. That is the sweetest goodbye ever. Though I'm so sorry it had to happen.

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
